Problem frame

95%

of DMs read like a Fiverr VA wrote them.

You've seen them. You've sent them. They don't just get ignored. They get you filed under background noise.

Most founders treat the DM like a cold email with worse manners.

  • Copy-paste opener
  • Feature dump
  • Calendar link
  • Send

Your prospect spots it in two seconds. The moment they do, you stop being a peer and start being a pitch. The thread goes cold and you blame the algorithm.

The three openers below are responsible for most of it.

The feature dump

Hey [First Name], I help busy founders scale to 6-figures using my proven 3-step system...

Why it fails: Copy-paste. Zero pattern interrupt. Feature dump before any trust gets built.

02
The fake curiosity

Quick question for you… 👀

Why it fails: Fake curiosity. Everyone knows what is coming next. Transparent and low status.

03
The desperation pitch

I saw your profile and thought we might be a great fit.

Why it fails: You need them more than they need you. The desperation is visible from space.

You are not just being ignored. You are being filed under forgettable.

The fix is not a better template. It is a status flip.

The framework below reverses the dynamic so the prospect starts chasing you.

The framework

4

Moves that flip every cold conversation.

Run them in order. Watch what happens.

Move 01

S

Stop the Scroll

Open with a pattern interrupt, not a pitch.

The first line is the whole game. If your opener could have been copy-pasted to anyone, it was. The prospect knows. The prospect is gone. Stop the scroll with something specific. A question that names their situation. An observation only a real human could make.

Move 02

L

Lead with Proof

Numbers beat adjectives. Drop one specific result before any pitch.

Adjectives are free. Numbers are earned. Before you ask for anything, drop one concrete proof point that ties to their niche. One line. Not a credentials dump. A receipt. Proof creates instant authority without you raising your voice.

Move 03

A

Arouse Curiosity

Name the gap. Do not fill it. Make them ask.

The prospect does not buy the answer. They buy the question they cannot stop thinking about. Point at the gap in their setup. Hint at the lever that would close it. Stop talking. The silence does the work. Curiosity dies the moment you fill the loop.

Move 04

P

Position as Shortcut

One binary ask. You are the shortest path. Act like it.

The close is not "let me know if you are interested." Give one binary question. Yes or no. This slot or that slot. The prospect should be able to answer in five seconds with their thumb. You are the shortcut to what they already want.

Execution flow

9

Steps that turn ignored DMs into booked calls.

SLAP is the structure. These are the reps. Run them in order until they're muscle memory.

Open the platform. Look for the green dot. That is your list.

Skool, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram. The same rule on all of them. If they are not online right now, they are not your conversation right now. Move on.

This single filter can triple your reply rate before you even change a word of your script. You stopped chasing dormant ghosts. You started talking to people whose attention is already in the app.

Lead with a free, specific resource. A one-page cheat sheet. A 90-second Loom. An offer breakdown PDF.

No ask attached. No "let me know if you want to chat." Just the gift.

Reciprocity is not a trick. It is the only fair price of entry to a stranger's inbox. You earn the right to ask later by giving something useful right now.

After the gift lands, ask one easy question that opens the business context.

"How's leadflow looking your way lately?"

That is it. No "hope you're well." No weather report. No fake compliment about their last post. The pulse check is a one-line invitation to share what is actually going on in their pipeline. Their answer tells you which lever to pull next.

Find the tool or process that got them to today and name the ceiling on it.

"ClickUp's solid. It just caps at about 30 clients before the wheels start coming off."

The reframe: that tool got you here. It is not built to get you there. Done right, this lands as a peer observation, not a sales attack. Stay status-neutral.

Three questions, asked one at a time, never stacked:

"What's your offer in one sentence?"

"What's the number one block keeping you from doubling it?"

"What does your monthly revenue look like right now?"

These are clarity questions. The prospect surfaces their own buying beliefs out loud. Your job is to listen and write down the exact words they use. You will reuse those words in step 7.

After they share their gap, drop one specific win that maps to it.

"Helped 120+ coaches replace paid ads with cold DMs. Most see 8 to 11 calls in month one."

One line. Then stop. If you dump three case studies, two testimonials, and a screenshot, you already lost. The whole point is that you barely raised your voice and the prospect leaned in anyway.

Reuse their words from step 5.

"You said the block is targeting. Looking at your DM, your opener leads with tech but your headline says done-for-you funnels. That mismatch alone could be costing you replies. Want a quick breakdown?"

The audit is specific. You ask permission before you fix. Permission is the micro-commitment that flips them from prospect to participant.

When they stall, do not push harder. Push sideways.

Permission: "Can I share something direct?"

Reason: "I've watched this exact thing kill threads in over a hundred conversations."

Question: "Want to hear what usually breaks it?"

That structure bypasses ego. The prospect was bracing for a pitch. You handed them a question instead. Resistance drops. The thread reopens.

The close is two messages, not one.

Message one: "Got 10am or 1pm PT Monday. Which works?"

Message two, after they pick: "Locked in. Sending a 3-min Loom before we talk so we can skip the basics and get straight to the map."

You removed the friction of an open-ended calendar. Binary always beats infinite. You raised the show rate. Prospects who watch a pre-frame Loom show up four times more often.

4

Lines that out-print most full sequences.

These four lines do the heavy lifting on:

  • Cold leads
  • Warm leads
  • Ghosted threads
  • Stalled conversations

Steal them.

LINE 01 · CRAZY IDEA OPEN

When to use it: Re-engaging a prospect you have already talked to. Someone who went quiet after a real conversation, not a stranger.

"I have a crazy idea. Do you have 10 minutes?"

Two open loops in twelve words. What is the crazy idea. Why now. The brain cannot leave that alone. "10 minutes" is a soft number anyone can spare. No pitch attached, so nothing to brace against. A pattern interrupt wrapped around a low-friction ask.

LINE 02 · NON-REJECTION CLOSE

When to use it: Right after you pitch the offer. In DM, on a clarity call, in a written proposal.

"If that doesn't sound stupid to you..."

Most closes ask the prospect to commit. This one asks them to reject. Humans are wired to defend, not commit. When you offer them an out, the brain defaults to "no, no, that sounds great." You forced the no. They handed you the yes.

LINE 03 · RECOMMENDATION GATE

When to use it: Before any unsolicited advice or any offer suggestion. The first beat of the close, not the close itself.

"Got a recommendation for you, if you're open to it."

Permission-based by design. You are not pitching. You are checking the door. When they say yes, the dynamic flips. They asked for the advice. You did not push it. The offer lands as a favor.

LINE 04 · NUDGE BACK UP

When to use it: A real thread went cold. You sent a real message. Days passed. No reply.

"Just want to pop this to the top of your inbox."

Most follow-ups smell like need. The nudge back up assumes the only thing that happened is life got busy. No accusation. No guilt. No status drop on either side. Then you stop typing.

The tool

Run it on your actual DMs.

Paste a thread you already sent. The analyzer:

  • Runs the SLAP framework on it, line by line
  • Names what went wrong
  • Rewrites it the way it should have gone

The fastest way to see this work is to see it work on you.

Grab a real DM thread from the last 30 days:

  • Cold opener you sent
  • Reply you wrote when a prospect went quiet
  • Pitch that landed flat
  • Anything from your actual outbox

Paste the thread below. The analyzer breaks it down move by move. Then it rewrites the whole thread the way it should have read.

Pick your coach
  • Each archetype rewrites the same thread differently.
  • Pick the voice you want the rewrite to sound like.
  • Include both sides of the conversation.
  • The more context, the sharper the rewrite.
